Change of Address in Quebec: Who to Notify When You Move
A change of address in Quebec is easier than it used to be: one online service sends your new address to several provincial ministries and agencies at once. Federal agencies, your electricity account, your mail and a long list of private companies still need to be told separately. Here is the order that works, with links to the official pages.

Step 1: the Quebec government in one form
The Service québécois de changement d'adresse lets you send your new address to the participating provincial ministries and agencies in a single step, including the RAMQ, the SAAQ, Revenu Québec, Retraite Québec and Élections Québec. The Quebec government's moving page explains the service and the agencies it covers.
Note the SAAQ rule stated on the government's page: your new address must be sent to the SAAQ within 30 days of your moving date.
Step 2: federal agencies
The provincial service does not reach Ottawa. Update your address with the Canada Revenue Agency through your CRA account so benefits and tax mail follow you, and with Service Canada if you receive Employment Insurance, the Canada Pension Plan or Old Age Security.

Step 3: electricity, mail and home services
Hydro-Québec lets you move your account to the new address in the Espace client; do it before moving day so the power is in your name when you arrive. Canada Post's mail forwarding catches anything you forget. Then work through internet and phone providers, insurers, banks, and any subscription that ships to your door.

When to do each step
Most services accept a future effective date, so the best time to file the changes is two to three weeks before the move. Mail forwarding and the Hydro-Québec transfer should be set to start on moving day; the government forms can be filed as soon as you have a signed lease or deed with the new address.
